What the vaccine does

Protects before exposure

HPV is a very common virus passed by skin contact. The vaccine works by protecting you before contact with the high-risk types, which is why it is given as early as possible.

Covers the high-risk types

The vaccine used in the UAE protects against the HPV types responsible for the majority of cervical cancers, as well as the types that cause genital warts.

Protects men too

HPV-related cancers affect men as well, and vaccination reduces transmission – which is why it is recommended for boys and young men, not only girls.

Who it is for, and how many doses

  • Licensed for both females and males from age 9 to 45
  • Under 15 at the first dose: two doses, several months apart
  • 15 and over at the first dose: three doses over about six months
  • Protection is greatest when given before any exposure to the virus – but it can still be worthwhile later, and Dr Faiza will talk through whether it is likely to benefit you
  • Vaccination is deferred during pregnancy, and can be given after delivery

Many insurance plans in the UAE cover HPV vaccination within certain age ranges. Send us your insurance details on WhatsApp and we will check your eligibility before you come in.

Do you need tests first?

No. HPV vaccination does not require blood tests, scans or an HPV test beforehand – and it is not necessary to have had a Pap smear first. Vaccination is recommended regardless of previous results or previous exposure.

What you do need is a short consultation. Dr Faiza confirms your dose schedule for your age, checks that vaccination is appropriate right now – including any allergies, current illness or possible pregnancy – explains the common side effects, and books your remaining doses so the course is completed properly.

Vaccination does not replace cervical screening

The vaccine covers the highest-risk HPV types, but not every type – so routine cervical screening remains important even after vaccination. Prevention and screening work together: the vaccine lowers your risk, and a Pap smear (AED 299) checks that everything is healthy now.

About the cost

The total cost depends on how many doses your age requires, and on whether your insurance covers vaccination. Rather than quote a figure that may not apply to you, we confirm the exact cost of your full course before you start – message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight away.
